Site visit to the Museo delle Civiltà, Rome

On 6th of May 2024, a site visit was conducted at the Museo delle Civiltà in Rome as part of the ongoing activities of the PRIN KNOT – Knowledge of Things project. The meeting brought together researchers from CNR ISPC, the Sapienza University of Rome, and museum representatives, including curator Dr. Francesca Anzelmo, along with Prof. Alessandro Lupo and Dr. Valeria Bellomia from Sapienza University of Rome.

The purpose of the visit was to initiate the first collaborative discussions regarding key Mesoamerican objects in the museum’s collections, with a focus on the Tlahmachayatl mantle and the Quetzalin costume. The session allowed project partners to examine the artefacts in detail, discuss their historical and cultural significance, and plan potential avenues for research, documentation, and analysis.

The meeting also served as a platform to align the objectives of the KNOT project with the museum’s curatorial priorities, paving the way for future activities that will include digital documentation, scientific investigation, and advanced visualization techniques.
