This route explores the histories connected to a Tayka (rush basket) from Tierra del Fuego, brought to Italy alongside other Fuegian Indigenous artifacts at the beginning of the twentieth century by Salesian missionaries, and now preserved at the Museo Etnologico Missionario Colle Don Bosco (Asti). Through ethnographic, museological, and visual research, the route intertwines the ancient use of the Tayka with contemporary basketry practiced by Margarita Maldonado, Selk’nam artisan and cultural bearer. It invites visitors to understand the significance and vitality of transmitted knowledge, rooted in the territory, for affirming the existence and sense of belonging of the Fuegian people today.
