In this section, you can find a list of Italian institutions that hold Indigenous American material culture, of any region and any time period. Grouped into three Italian geographical macroregions — Northwest, Northeast, and Center & Islands — each museum page, compiled by museum curators who kindly collaborated with our project, provides a brief description of its collection along with practical logistical information. Each museum page has also been tagged with the names of the American cultural areas represented in the museum. The tags can be used as research tools to identify all museums holding materials from a specific cultural area.
Additionally, every page features a link to download a PDF factsheet with a more detailed description of its Indigenous American collections and related, essential bibliography. These factsheets, that will be cyclically updated, are conceived as the most important tool to explore the museum collections, learn about them, and plan future research. Like all other sections of the website, this list is conceived as a work in progress, and any contributions from users to help enrich it are warmly welcome.
